Religious Exploration for Children

A cornerstone of the Fellowship’s activities is a Religious Exploration program for elementary and middle-school children.

Spirit Play is designed to expose our younger members to the idea of spirituality and to develop ways to talk about faith, religions, and what it means to be a UU. Adapted from Montessori-based approaches specifically to meet the needs of UU Religious Exploration programs, it uses stories and classroom practices, routines, and materials to allow children to discuss big questions and ideas.

On Sundays when we have children present, religious exploration begins with a story related to our seven UU Principles (called Promises in Spirit Play) or one of our six UU Sources of Knowledge and Wisdom. After the story, we wonder together about questions related to the story. Each story has a related basket of objects that are used to help tell the story. The children can work with these objects to retell the story themselves. Additional materials are available that can be used to reflect on or respond to the story.

Childcare is provided for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.
